Personality Classification 

According to Carl Jung’s typology, all people can be classified according to the following criteria:

With these three criteria, Jung defined eight personality types:

Later on, Isabel Briggs-Myers added a fourth criterion: 

·         Judging – Perceiving 

With the introduction of these two variables, the eight personality types became 16: ESFP, ESTP, ISTJ, ISFJ, ENFP, ENTP, INFJ, INTJ, ESTJ, ENTJ, ISTP, INTP, ESFJ, ENFJ, INFP and ISFP. 

What The Letters Mean 

Extraversion – Introversion (E – I) is what defines the source and direction of your energy expression. The source of energy for an extravert resides in the external world, while the source of energy for an introvert lies mainly in the internal world. 

Sensing – Intuition (S – N) defines how individuals perceive information. Sensing is when the individual believes the information being received comes from the external world. Intuition is when the individual believes the information comes from the internal or imaginative world. 

Thinking – Feeling (T – F) defines how a person processes information. Thinking means that the decision was made through logic. Feeling means that the decision was emotion-based. 

Judging – Perceiving (J – P) defines how a person implements processed information. People who organize life events according to their own personal plans fall under the category of Judging. Those who improvise and seek out other alternatives fall under the category of Perceiving. 

Why It’s Important To Know Your Personality 

Each personality type is unique and diverse, just as it should be. If everyone were the same, then the world would be a boring place. Different personalities are what keep our surroundings interesting, entertaining, and constantly changing.
