Extracurricular Activities
Your involvement in after school activities may be as important as good grades and high test scores for getting into the college of your choice. As the college selection process becomes more competitive, colleges are beginning to look at other activity areas, in order to set certain applicants apart from the others. By participating in extracurricular activities, you have an opportunity to show what makes you unique and to demonstrate your important and desirable traits. You may also find a school activity that is offered at college as well, so your high-school involvement can lead to college fun.
To make yourself stand out from other college applicants, you should participate in after school activities, such as clubs, sports, or writing for school publications. Most high schools offer a wide array of activities, so that you can find no trouble in locating an activity in which you are interested. Many of the activities offered in high school are also available at college. If you can show colleges that you will be an active participant on their campus, you will, therefore, become a more appealing candidate.
Participating in a school activity is not the only way to become involved in extracurricular activities. Outside of high school here are some other activities that will make you a more desirable candidate to your chosen college. Work experience in the form of an after school job, paid internship, or summer internship can make you more appealing to colleges and universities. It is also important to show that you are involved within your community. Participation in these kinds of activities can also lead to more college fun, when you can participate in activities similar to your community involvement.
