Taking Advantage Of Educational Resources Is Key To Picking The Right College Major

Having Trouble Picking A Major? Use Educational Tools and Resources As Your Guide

So, you have finally made it to college, but you have not quite decided what you want to choose as your college major. Well, choosing a major immediately is not really necessary. Many times, students change their majors multiple times throughout their college careers. College, in and of itself, is a learning process. This is a time for you to broaden your horizons, get in touch with your true self, and expand your knowledge.

Remember that choosing a college major takes time, especially if you want to achieve the best fit. If you want to make the right choice, you need to take full advantage of the educational resources available to you. In doing so, you have a better chance of settling on something you truly enjoy.

Quintessential Careers

Quintessential careers, in partnership with the Jackson Vocational Interest Survey, offers a wonderful self-assessment test, which is a standardized test that will help you choose your perfect major.

The Jackson Vocational Interest Survey test measures your interests and shows how they relate to both college and career. This makes it easier to pick a major and it also gives you a glimpse at possible job opportunities to consider for the future.

ANSIR 3 Sides Of You Profiler

The ANSIR 3 test is geared toward honing in on your dominant strengths and utmost personal interests. The results give you an explanation of your top qualities and then offers suggestions for finding where and with whom you belong. This test is only a tool, in order to bring your inner self to the surface. In other words, after taking the test, you will have a clearer understanding of the components that make up the person you are.

The Big Five Personality Test

The Big Five Personality Test is a psychology test to identify aspects of your personality. After taking the test, you will have an understanding of what differentiates you from others. This test will also give you insight into why you behave the way you do.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test is probably the most popular personality test you can take. The MBTI consists of questions that will pinpoint which of the sixteen personality types you represent. This test will determine:

·         Favorite world: Are you an extravert (E) or an introvert (I)?

·         Information: Do you take in information by sensing (S) or through intuition (N)?

·        Decisions: Do you make decisions through thinking (T) or by feeling (F)?

·         Structure: Do you prefer to get things decided by judging (J), or do you prefer to keep your options open by perceiving (P)?

Your personality type will be expressed as a code with four letters (e.g. ENFJ), one from each of the above groups. Then, you will be able to use the MBTI type table to see what your four letters mean.

Additional Educational Resources

If you still need additional guidance, then take advantage of your college or university course catalog and career center. Both of these options will provide you with specific educational resources, which can help you choose a college major. If all else fails, speak with your professors, university alumni, classmates, family, and friends, in order to find the best possible fit for you.
